Frequently Asked Questions for Our Senior-Friendly Mobile Dental Clinic

Make iSmile Your Preferred Mobile Dental Hygienist for Seniors

How does the booking process work?

Simply give us a call, send an email, or fill out the contact form to schedule an appointment for yourself or your loved one!

After a short consultation to answer any questions you may have, and gather any relevant medical and dental information, a mutually convenient time is scheduled.

We will contact the facility to let them know of the appointment and make any necessary arrangements for the visit.

After the appointment, all findings and recommendations are discussed with the client and their family. A detailed invoice is provided outlining exactly which services were completed and their fees. Visa, Mastercard, e-transfer and personal cheque are accepted for payment.

If desired, we can submit your insurance claim to your insurance company on your behalf, in order to ensure a hassle-free service for you. Soon after, your insurance company will directly reimburse you.

Clients are treated either in their own private suite or in a private, designated area within the facility. A safe and comfortable visit for all clients is our top priority. Client and facility preferences are taken into account when deciding on the optimal place to provide care.

Examples of set up locations within the facility are the hair salon, doctor’s office, activity rooms and even the theater!

A fully portable (and very comfortable!) dental chair is available for those clients who are able to transfer. Clients who cannot be transferred or are not comfortable sitting in the dental chair can be seen in their own wheelchair, bed or even reclining easy chair! Clients are minimally reclined, reducing strain on the neck and back.

When choosing a care provider for your elderly loved one it is especially important to find someone that has experience working with seniors. Seniors’ oral care needs can be vastly different than those of younger people.

iSmile Mobile Dental provides both preventative and therapeutic dental hygiene care. We focus on comfortable, non-invasive care such as gentle removal of harmful bacterial plaque and tartar build-up, easily applied topical anti-cavity/anti-bacterial agents and fillings which are quickly and comfortably placed and do not require freezing or drilling.

During a dental hygiene diagnosis and exam, all of the information is collected and signs and symptoms of problem areas are identified. Any issues that are beyond the scope of dental hygiene care will be referred to the appropriate professional.

In some cases, cognitive decline and reduced mobility present additional challenges with this age group. Memory care clients can be confused, afraid or even aggressive at times. An experienced and patient provider can go a long way towards ensuring your loved one feels safe and comfortable throughout the visit.

By specializing in senior citizens and only providing care for this age group, iSmile Mobile Dental brings years of experience to each visit.

Mobile dental hygiene services are extremely cost effective, especially when compared with the cost of lost time, work and paid transportation to bring a loved one to the dental office! Dental hygiene treatments, like dental treatments, are service based, with each service having an associated treatment code and fee. We follow the suggested fees from the Ontario Dental Hygienists Association, which are typically around 10% less than The Ontario Dental Association fees for the same service. Each client is assessed, and treatment is based on their individual needs. The needs of one client can be quite different from the next! For this reason, it is challenging to post a price list with ‘standard fees’. Please contact us and we would be happy to discuss your particular situation!

Yes!

Sometimes, clients have needs that are beyond the scope of dental hygiene care to treat.

Examples are dental abscesses or infections, severely broken-down teeth where the nerve is affected, teeth that require extraction, and broken or worn out dentures.

If desired by the client, a referral can be made to a mobile dentist or denturist who can provide treatment directly in the client’s room.

We can even assist you in accessing care for more complex needs, such as hospital setting dental care.

When referrals to a mobile dentist or denturist are needed, iSmile Mobile Dental only refers to trusted professionals that have many years of experience working in seniors’ homes. You can rest assured that your loved one is in good hands and receiving the most appropriate and gentle care for their situation.

Every precaution is taken to keep you and your loved one safe during the visit. Below are some highlights of the precautions we take: – We are actively monitoring the recommendations and guidelines set out by Public Health Ontario and the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario to ensure we have the most up to date information and are meeting all standards. – According to the new standards set out by the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario and the RCDSO, a certified fit-tested N95 mask is worn during client care. – Gloves, N95 masks and isolation gowns are single use and disposed of after each client. – High level disinfectant wipes that have demonstrated a 1min kill time against SARS-CoV-2-Virus in independent laboratory testing are used between clients to disinfect all surfaces in the treatment area. – All our instruments are processed in our state of the art sterilization center. Sterilized instruments remain sealed in their sterile pouch until opened at the time of use in front of the client. Each instrument load is spore tested and monitored to ensure proper time/temperature and pressure have been met. If you have any questions or concerns regarding COVID safety that are not addressed here, please call us and we will be happy to answer your questions!
